LEI was contracted to perform a $476,000 new construction Fire Alarm system in a 420,000 square foot high-rise with five levels of parking and seven tenant occupancy levels.
Due to the nature of the construction, the project maintained an extremely tight schedule to accommodate a one day turnover for occupancy. LEI managed a crew averaging 9 electricians to complete the project. This project required the detailed coordination and input of several disciplines and controls systems in order to function appropriately. Several Temperature Control and Building Automation Systems components were required to serve dual functions for the Life Safety Smoke Control system. As an example, dampers and fans utilized to control the flow of warm or cool air to tempered areas were literally taken over and controlled by the fire alarm system during an alarm event. This required innovative electronic interface between two standalone control systems which were on non-compatible software platforms.
Additionally, the timing of this project was such that a new Denver Fire Department Fire Alarm Installers program was introduced in the middle of the project. This required that all of our installers be tested and certified under this program during final third of the project. We were successful in complying with this program and the commissioning of this high rise building was one of the first under the new requirements of the Denver Fire Department.
